Social Networking and Virtual Worlds

My experience of Social Networks

My experience of social networks has been Facebook, Myspace and Beboo.  I’ve always held the view that these sites facilitate networking.

How can social networking be used in learning environments?

In my opinion, social networks like facebook should be used only as a tool for getting to know people. However if a learner wanted to use it for the purpose of learning, the profile pages could help learners to get to know other learners and discussion forums could also be an avenue of support for learners.

Virtual Worlds

How could virtual worlds, like second life be used for learning?

Virtual worlds could be used to create virtual classrooms where interaction would occur through synchronous communication with learners all online at the same time.
