There is a need for DoCS to make sure that all staff in Non Government Organisations (NGOs) (that receive DoCS funding) are adequately trained. DoCS needs to work to strengthen the capacity of workers in these NGOs in order to also improve the quality of the NGOs to which they give funding. Most NGO workers have usually got a social work qualification, however there is always the need to continue with professional development. Basic computer skills are necessary in order to begin using most e-learning technologies, however for some NGO workers, these are skills that they consider to be irrelevant. A certain percentage of NGO workers are more focused on their face-to-face interactions with clients throughout their working days then they are on improving their training and computer skills. If any NGO worker is to partake in training they will need to be informed of how it can benefit their clients in the long run, otherwise they will perceive the training to be irrelevant and a waste of time.
The DoCS Vision:
“The NSW Department of Community Services (DoCS) promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and young people and works to build stronger families and communities”.
