Netvibes: RSS and Aggregation

Posted by: tamaraauer | March 28, 2008 | No Comment |

This week I opened a Netvibes account and explored the different widgets and RSS feeds I was able to subscribe to. I found that the time I spent checking my email accounts was greatly reduced. Netvibes offered me the opportunity to draw into a single page, information from a number of different sites. For example to help with my Italian study, I was able to subscribe to news headlines from Italian newspapers. On the same page I was also able to see my facebook account and see a list of upcoming Sydney Symphony Orchestra Concerts.

What is RSS? How does it work?

RSS is a way of receiving new and efficient information quickly and efficiently, it takes updated information from a number of websites and consolodates this information into a list of short summary headings.

How can RSS be used in this subject?
It it possible for teachers and students in E-learning design to subscribe to blog post updates. This will provide students access to other students' blogs to see their latest blog posts and contribute to comments. For teachers, it can act as a tool to assist in keeping tabs on when students have posted blog entries.
